This image looks like a line drawing, but it is a watercolour painting. This was created by painting the same portrait several times and leaving out more and more. What remains is a few black lines and a little bit of color. Actually, it is up to the viewer to 'fill in' the rest of the female face. As a result, the painting remains a bit mysterious, as we cannot see her eyes, among other things.
